random Monday musings

*first of all..I just have to say WOW, y’all! I’d never guess that so many people would respond to my blog comment contest! :) reading some of your comments really made me tear up.  I’m humbled, truly.  For the sweet words, ‘thank you’ does not seem adequate!  Boy is it encouraging though! After hubby Justin read that I was doing a blog contest he said “aren’t you bribing people to comment?”  I said YES absolutely, I’m not too proud to admit it ;) hehe!

*I’m going to make an effort to post much more frequently! Now that I have a shiny new blog I’ll be more motivated.  Kind of like I get more motivated to go to the gym when I get new gym clothes :)

*I’m working on my 2009 reading list right now.   Here is what’s on my list so far:

Sacred Marriage (Thomas), Wild Goose Chase (Batterson), Problem of Pain (Lewis), Holy Curiosity (Collier)

I need some suggestions!  Comment with some books I should add to my list.  I need some good fiction sprinkled in there!

*Comments for the contest will be eligible till Tuesday at midnight!  I’ll draw Wednesday morning and let you know who won the gift card.  And yes, comments on this post will work too :)

Have a great day!

January 26, 2009 - 5:33 pm Ashley Wright - Hey Brooke. I love looking at your pictures. I'm reading "A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Houseini (sp.?). I'm not finished yet but it is amazing. He's the same guy who wrote "The Kite Runner" which Travis tells me is super intense so I don't know if I can handle it. :] I also really liked "marley and Me" and "The Shack".

January 26, 2009 - 5:34 pm Lauren Stephens - Hey Brooke! I don't know if you've already read them or not, but the Twilight books are amazing! Jason's sister, Julie, recommended them to me last week, and I wasn't sure if I would like them because I'd heard they were about vampires and other fictional characters, and fantasy is usually not my thing. However, since I started on the first book, I have not been able to put them down! I've already finished the first 2 books (with a sleep deficit to show for it!), but they really are SOO so good. Anyway, I think you'll like them if you haven't read them already, and they're all really long so it should keep you busy for at least a little while! Hope you have a great week! :) Lauren

January 27, 2009 - 7:15 am jay hardwick - oooooo...books! can't recommend The Reason for God by Tim Keller enough. best book i read in 08. just finished Alan Hirsch's new book ReJesus...excellent look at Jesus' life and a challege for His followers to be more like Him. i told you the other night...Pour Your Heart Into It by Starbucks Chairman and CEO Howard Schultz. great leadership principles woven into Schultz's story of leading starbucks to total domination. the guy loves coffee and that's what drives everything he does. those are three off the top of my head. happy reading!

January 27, 2009 - 9:00 am admin - Thanks y'all for the suggestions! Ashley - I'll definitely add "A Thousand Splendid Suns" to the list. Oh, and The Shack...one of my FAVES from 2008! Lauren - my sis and so many others RAVE about that series. I'm a little apprehensive like you were at first...vampires and fantasy things like that don't usually appeal to me...but I might have to at least give Twilight a try. at least I can borrow them from my sister! Jay- I read Tim Keller's book in 08 and I loved it too! (although I had to read it in little bits at the time; there was so much depth there).. Will definitely add the other two to the wish list as well! :) Thanks!

January 27, 2009 - 10:48 am Renee - Ok so several people have said this already but I will say it again. For something fun to mix in with real books you have to read the Twilight series. You know how I read and I finished all 4 books in a three week period and add in a week that I had to wait for my sister to bring the last two to me. Anyone I know that has started them can not stop...even though they do sound silly. I miss ya girl but I love keeping up with you through your blog!! I am usually the silent stalker:)!!

January 27, 2009 - 3:39 pm Liz - Ok, guilty....I told Brooke that she wouldn't like Twilight b/c she's not usually into the fantasy type of thing. But really, sis, you might actually like this one. I'll give you the first book next time I see you in case you decide to give it a try.

May 26, 2011 - 10:24 pm Harley Parente - I’d have to agree with you one this subject. Which is not something I usually do! I love reading a post that will make people think. Also, thanks for allowing me to speak my mind!
