Four!

06-beach026

Today, we celebrate four years of marriage.  Justin is my love, my best friend, my laughter, my comfort. He is such a good man. Gosh I love him.

I want to share an excerpt of “Blue Like Jazz”. This chapter really spoke to me about what love is, and how true love is lived out.   If I could go back and rewrite my wedding vows - this would be them :)  So often I think love is about me.  Someone loving ME. Making ME happy.  Fulfilling me. “Completing” me.  True love, as Christ teaches us, is self sacrifice.  Dying to self for the good of others.  This is what marriage is all about, I’m learning. Still got a long way to go.   Here’s the passage from Chapter 13.

“I will give you this, my love, and I will not bargain or barter any longer.  I will love you, as sure as He has loved me.  I will discover what I can discover and through you remain a mystery, save God’s own knowledge, what I disclose of you I will keep in the warmest chamber of my heart, the very chamber where God has stowed himself in me.  And I will do this to my death, and to death it may bring me.   I will love you like God, because of God, mighted by the power of God.  I will stop expecting your love, demanding your love, trading for your love, gaming for your love.  I will simply love.  I am giving myself to you, and tomorrow I will do it again.  I suppose the clock itself will wear thin its time before I am ended at this altar of dying and dying again.

God risked Himself on me.  I will risk myself on you.  And together, we will learn to love, and perhaps then, and only then, understand this gravity that drew Him, unto us.”

That is simply beautiful.

May 10, 2009 - 12:49 pm Brantley Freeman - Congrats Brooke (and Justin)! I knew 4 years was coming close... didn't realize how close though! I'm so happy for you both and hope you have a wonderful anniversary!

May 16, 2009 - 1:30 pm Amy L - Such a great post and a wonderful reminder of true love! Congrats on 4 years.

May 26, 2011 - 11:25 pm Eusebio Spirek - This post seems to recieve a large ammount of visitors. How do you get traffic to it? It gives a nice unique spin on things. I guess having something authentic or substantial to give info on is the most important factor.
