our vacation

Last month, Justin and I made the trip to Santa Monica so I could photograph Elisabeth and Shawn’s wedding, but we managed to fit in a mini vacation too!  Here are a few from our adventures

a FABULOUS discovery - in California they have these self serve yogurt places…about 20 flavors you can add your own toppings-heaven in a cup!

quite possibly the best Pad Thai I’ve EVER tasted (and I’ve tasted a lot!)- at The Palms in LA  (thanks Liz H. for the suggestion!)

not only did they have awesome Pad Thai - but quirky Asian Elvis impersonators to entertain.  so random but so funny!

I took a trapeze class on the Santa Monica pier!  I absolutely LOVED every second of it.  Way more challenging than I thought - I was sore for days- but it was SO AWESOME!! I guess if photography doesn’t work out, I could always join the circus! :)

So much to blog, so little time!

Oh, you faithful blog readers….still coming back when I am less than consistent on blogging.  I promise, the lack of posts if not for lack of things to post about! Quite the opposite!

I WILL get around to blogging soon, but still trying to catch up from pretty much being out of town the entire month of October working, and the days I’ve been home I’ve been out of the office shooting…which means TONs of editing :)

Where I’ve Been & Where I’m Going

What a whirlwind!   The last week has looked like this for me: last week Thurs and Friday - shooting beach portraits in Pawley’s Island; Saturday Kristy & Robert’s Charleston wedding, Sunday Sara’s bridals in Charleston, then back to Pawley’s on Monday & Tuesday for more beach portraits, back home Wednesday, and yesterday to Augusta for Kristin & Nick’s engagement session.   I’m finally back home in time to do laundry, and pack my bags again for our trip to Santa Monica and San Diego.  Justin and I will be leaving Monday and returning Saturday.  A little work, a little play!  I will be photographing Elisabeth & Shawn’s wedding at Shutters on the Beach in Santa Monica on Friday.  FUN!  Otherwise we will be exploring San Diego and LA.

At times like these it is so easy to get overwhelmed, but if I take a step back I realize just how incredibly blessed I am… to get to travel not only the Southeast to chase my passion, but now my work is taking me to the west coast! What an amazing opportunity!  It was right at two years ago that I was about to “cut the cord” on my corporate job to go full time in photography. I remember clearly the doubt, the fear, of leaving the security of working for a large corporation to live out my dream.   I’m SO thankful at times like these of the Lord’s provision in my business… not only bring me more business than I need, but also to sustain me at times when I wonder how on earth I’m going to get all the work done!  Glory to God!

Needless to say, I’ve got tons of pictures to post here on the blog! Here is just a little sneak peek from Kristy & Robert’s wedding to tide you over till I can finish the slideshow (hopefully today!).

deeper still and blog slacker

Happy Friday blog readers!    Last Friday a couple of friends and I took a weekend road trip to Orlando for the Deeper Still Conference, which of course was amazing. This was my third year and I hope to go every year for as long as this conference exists!   The three speakers are Beth Moore, Kay Arthur, and Priscilla Shirer.  All three spoke to me deeply, but I tell you what- Pricilla Shirer had an extra measure of annointing this year.    Her whole message was breaking down Ephesians 3:20:

Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever!”

What an encouraging verse that I have seen evidence of in my own life!  Priscilla will be speaking at Shandon Baptist here in Columbia Oct 8-9, 2010 and you can bet I’m going to be there!

As expected, when coming off of a spiritual mountaintop weekend, this has been one of “those” weeks.  I’m sure you all can relate….where the stress of work and life seem to take over.  I have been out of the house shooting almost every day, and had an influx of albums to design in the office - so I’ve been pretty swamped to say the least!  Sorry for the absence on the blog!   I have several sweet sessions to show you!   Here’s something to tide you over in the meantime…from Heather’s maternity #2 session for baby Eli (due in November)…but Bailey stole the show!  Don’t worry we got some sweet ones showcasing the baby bump too :)

Four!

Today, we celebrate four years of marriage.  Justin is my love, my best friend, my laughter, my comfort. He is such a good man. Gosh I love him.

I want to share an excerpt of “Blue Like Jazz”. This chapter really spoke to me about what love is, and how true love is lived out.   If I could go back and rewrite my wedding vows - this would be them :)  So often I think love is about me.  Someone loving ME. Making ME happy.  Fulfilling me. “Completing” me.  True love, as Christ teaches us, is self sacrifice.  Dying to self for the good of others.  This is what marriage is all about, I’m learning. Still got a long way to go.   Here’s the passage from Chapter 13.   

“I will give you this, my love, and I will not bargain or barter any longer.  I will love you, as sure as He has loved me.  I will discover what I can discover and through you remain a mystery, save God’s own knowledge, what I disclose of you I will keep in the warmest chamber of my heart, the very chamber where God has stowed himself in me.  And I will do this to my death, and to death it may bring me.   I will love you like God, because of God, mighted by the power of God.  I will stop expecting your love, demanding your love, trading for your love, gaming for your love.  I will simply love.  I am giving myself to you, and tomorrow I will do it again.  I suppose the clock itself will wear thin its time before I am ended at this altar of dying and dying again.

God risked Himself on me.  I will risk myself on you.  And together, we will learn to love, and perhaps then, and only then, understand this gravity that drew Him, unto us.”

 

That is simply beautiful.

Cycling

I’m so proud of my husband! Justin absolutely loves cycling and he’s worked so incredibly hard over the past couple of years to get back into it.  A local racing team asked him to be a member this year and he was absolutely thrilled and honored.   He travels all over, even to other states to race on weekends.  It  works out well because often I’m working weekends anyway.  This past weekend there was a race in Blythewood of all places - practically our backyard!  It was so nice because I actually got to go and root him on, although it was 40 degrees and rainy.   Here is a quick shot I took on one of the laps  - Justin up front and 3 other Palmetto Velo teammates with him.  Man they were working hard! They didn’t win, but at least for this lap they did :)  I think they look so cute in their matching cycling jerseys!

growing old together in Asheville…

I’ve been blessed beyond measure.   A few friends and I had our annual celebration in Asheville. What are we celebrating? The goodness of our Lord…just His beauty can bring tears to my eyes. Seriously, I think I was crying almost all weekend.  Simply put, He has captured my heart once again..and I know He will again, and again, and again.  Can’t wait for the next 5, 10, 15, 20, 30 years celebrating His faithfulness.  Loving the journey-
